HandTales News Spring 2008, More stories about Life Purpose
Quote for Spring:

"It is tempting to sleepwalk through life. To tell half-truths, listen half-way, be half-asleep, drive at half attention. Wake up your power and use it wisely. Wake up your pain and investigate it. Wake Up! Now that you are awakened, immediately take a Nap. Naps are when the angels come out to take special care of you."

The Matriarch and the Taxman
Two Stories
In Costa Rica they call it Plan de Vida.
In Okinawa they call it Ikigai
.
Dan Buettner in his recent book Blue Zones: Lessons for living longer for those who have lived the longest, describes 4 areas of the world with the greatest longevity and the factors that contribute to a long, healthy life. One of them was to know and to be able to articulate your sense of purpose. This is what we, in the Hand Analysis community, call Life Purpose as revealed in your fingerprints. When you listen to the short videos on the Buettner website about the members of these communities, you may be left with a generic sense of his or her contribution to the community.

As a hand and fingerprint analyst specializing in helping people to identify and live their life purpose
, I found myself reading between the lines, seeing each person described as an individual with a unique calling, a unique sense of fulfillment even if the activities seemed similar to his or her neighbors.

Now I want to go to Costa Rica, to Sardinia, to Okinawa and the to the 7th Day Adventists in Loma Linda, CA and continue the research using fingerprints as an assessment tool. Want to come?

Just what is Life Purpose?
Last week, I had a display table at an E-Women luncheon. I asked passers by to declare in a word or a phrase what Life Purpose meant to them. Here are a few of their answers ~ Peace, Love, Service, Hope, Happiness, Relaxation, Partnership, Impact. All are certainly worthy candidates for a life well lived. Love or Service might be the stage or grand perspective for an individual, still not specific enough, though, to qualify as a unique life purpose.

It can seem so intangible or confused with career or life goals. Do each of us truly have a purpose unique to us? Yes we do.

The Matriarch or the Artist, examples of two distinct life purposes (read the stories below) may be shared by 2 neighbors; the way they are uniquely expressed, however, is based on many other factors in the fingerprints, your Soul Psychology, and in your hands, your Personality Psychology.

So shall we get more specific? Your Life Purpose, found in your fingerprints, which are the window to your soul, is a way of being. Once made conscious and nourished it is to be infused in all aspects of your life. You can name it and others around you see it.

Perhaps one way to experience your life purpose is to live in the inverse which is highly likely during some phases of your life. Hopefully the following stories of the Matriarch and the Taxman will help paint an image of the Life Purpose journey.

The Matriarch (or Patriarch) vs the Soccer Mom
This person embodies the highest calling of passion for family or community. She (or he) assumes the role of the emotional glue that holds the family together, the protector, provider, the galvanizer, one who sets and respects good boundaries, who sits at the head of her table. This is not the soccer mom story, someone who sacrifices her own unique identity to focus only on the activities of her children. The error here in this life purpose is to sell out for family. Or the opposite, she might play the lone wolf avoiding complicated family dynamics or expectations of her family just to have a private life. Can you see how these examples of the inverse can shed light on the true path?

I have had clients come to me with this Life Purpose who have no plans to have children. The path may to be a matriarch in their community, perhaps to run a community center, to be the matron of the arts, to be a soccer coach. But most importantly to live the consciousness of a matriarch in every aspect of their life.

The Taxman whose Life Purpose is to be the Artist
Imagine a tax accountant in a large corporate firm. His job can be clearly described. He crunches numbers, stays up with tax law, gets the most for his clients. What if I told him his life purpose is the Artist. One response might be I do nothing remotely artistic. Or he may say, I know because he understands the true meaning of living the consciousness of an artist. Perhaps in the long run, he is not meant to be a tax accountant and really meant to be pursuing an art genre usually associated with an artist. I do not know this for sure.

How about if we play out some scenarios? If he is in the back room mostly forgotten by his colleagues, in a room appointed only with grey metal and all he does is crunch numbers all day, then I would say he lives in the inverse of his life purpose. However, if he actually has a unique spotlight effect on accounting at this firm or has written a well regarded book or has created a fun accounting game and trains other want to be accountants in how to master the business while having fun, then we are on to something. How about an office that has original art and the colors on the wall are remarkable? Or he has a passionate hobby creating minute wood sculptures also displayed in his office and noticed by the artistic community. I could go on.

The life purpose of an Artist simply means to stand out as an individual, to brave the spotlight, to be seen and acknowledged as someone who embodies a unique, creative spirit.
